  • Wasit Wetland Center restored its original ecosystem; Indeed, it has proven to be a distinguished place that enables visitors to appreciate and learn about their natural environment and to be part of the birds’ natural environment.
  • 45 minutes of guided walking tours carried out by the center's guides to create an educational atmosphere in the middle of nature for visitors. Where the reserve generally plays an important role in promoting ecotourism, its development and preservation of biological diversity.   Given that, the reserve is one of the areas that is rich in natural features in terms of geological description, weather, soil, vegetation, & animal diversity.
  • The center also contributes to converting arid lands into wetlands, and acts as a catalyst for biodiversity and environmental education.

 

Sustainability projects implemented in thE RESERVE

  • Birdhouses from recycled wood for those who love to watch birds closely.
  • Electric powered golf carts at special charging stations.
  • LED lighting in all facilities of the educational center
  • Using the reed plant to filter the lake water naturally and without the use of electrical machines
  • Recycled outdoor classrooms, where the environmental classrooms are mediated by the trees scattered in the reserve, which increases the capabilities of students, researchers and university students in their environmental studies in a practical way.

Wasit Wetland Center

It is an educational center built underground at the level of the outer reserve; to ensure that no architectural traces are left in the way of the birds' migration and to ensure that they land safely on the reserve's land. The center includes four internal sections In addition to a several station  that are located in the reserve for the visitors to enable them to closely monitor the migratory birds and learn about their diet also to observe the birds' hideouts and their nesting places. The center provides an outer tour program that allows the visitors to move from one station to another and enjoy the nature seen in the reserve.  

The following internal  sections are  available in the center:

• Galleries with open ceilings, which constitute the real wetlands environments around the world in all its six types (valley environment, estuarine environment, freshwater lake environment, marsh environment, wooded areas environment, reed beds or valley environment and mud flats environment).

• The birds’ kitchen where to prepare birds’ food directly in front of visitors. This kind of food contains vitamins that helps the birds to maintain their calories and strengthen their muscles. The visitor can learn about ways to preserve birds and their nutritional balance.

• The hatching room for incubating eggs in the cages because some birds are not known to hatch eggs, so this room is provided to increase their reproduction and protect them from extinction. The visitor can learn about the incubation stages directly by the specialized team.

• A multi-purpose hall that is used for scientific, educational, & practical workshops for visitors and students.
